ST. CHARLES •  The post office building here will be renamed Friday in honor of a fallen local Marine.
Lance Cpl. Drew Weaver was born and raised in St. Charles, and at age 18, he enlisted in the Marines.
Weaver of St. Charles was killed Feb. 21, 2008, during a combat operation in Iraq's Anbar province.
His unit was on patrol when it came up to a truck that then sped away. The soldiers gave chase with Weaver in the lead. When they caught up with the truck, Weaver turned to warn his fellow Marines and a bullet hit him in a spot that wasn't protected by his vest.
The building at 112 S. Fifth Street will be dedicated at 1:30 p.m. The change comes after the passage of legislation sponsored by U.S. Rep. Blaine Leutkemeyer.
A plan to relocate the post office in a development across from Lindenwood University has not been finalized, a spokeswoman for the postal service said, so no decisions have been made about transferring Weaver's name to the new building should it happen.

The Briton and the Dane is dedicated to the memory of Drew Weaver
